Tips, Tricks, And Fall Colors For Pretty Flower Arrangements

Have you ever tried arranging flowers on your own, only to realize you’re not so Martha Stewart after all? We know it can be tricky, which is why we decided to do some research on how we can make this easy for everyone!  So we went ahead and collected what we think are some of the most helpful tips to beautiful flower arrangements. And with fall on it’s way, we decided to also include images of some of the prettiest flower combinations to use for the season. But remember, fall doesn’t just mean orange. We also love reds, yellows, greens, whites, browns, and purples! So whether you’re making a centerpiece, gift, or bouquet, we have all the tips you need for a beautiful flower arrangement.

1. When picking out what flowers to use, it’s important to remember to be mindful of colors. If you decide to create an arrangement that is all orange for example, pick up different shades of orange for variation. If you want multiple colors, try sticking to 2 or 3. You don’t want the arrangement to appear overwhelming or sloppy.

2. In order to make your flower arrangement feel more natural, we suggest also picking up green foliage. (Stems, leaves, branches, etc.)

3. Are you using a vase to display your flowers? If so, then when preparing your vase, make sure it is clean, and about 3/4 of the way full with lukewarm water. (Using too cold or hot of water can actually shock your flowers, which is why we suggest lukewarm.)

4. In order to make your flowers stay in place, create a grid across the top of your vase using clear tape. “Tic-tac-toe” style works best.

5. Don’t forget to cuts the stems. Holding each piece of your arrangement up to the vase or next to one another is the best way to know where to cut the stem.

6. Cutting at an angle works best because it allows more water to take in. If you accidentally bend a stem, make sure to cut that part off, or else water won’t take in at all.

7. Start your arrangement off with your tallest green foliage in the center. Add in at different angles and in layers. Work in a circular motion so that your arrangement is beautiful from every angle.

8. Once you have your desired amount, start placing in your “face” flowers. Face flowers, are the ones you’re looking to really show off. They typically are going to be what draws the eyes in to the arrangement. A good amount to add in is either 3 or 5. Odd numbers work best! Did you remember to cut the stems?

9. Add in your accent flowers. Accent flowers are smaller then face flowers, and while they add in beauty, are not a distraction from the face flowers. If you want your arrangement to look as natural as possible, let these anchor out of your arrangement.

There you have it! You’re all set up for a perfect flower arrangement. Move things around a little until it looks just right to you, and don’t forget to keep leaves out of the bottom of the vase, and to trim the stems and change the water daily to keep your flowers looking beautiful for as long as possible.
